Dave Matthews Band - “Lying in the Hands of God”
* By far the best effort I’ve heard from DMB in a while. Really, there was only two tracks that I felt were weak.
* I’ve always felt DMB was best when they were smooth & mellow, much like in classics like “Crash Into Me” or “Crush”. “Lying in the Hands of God” (which can be heard above), “Dive In”, & “Time Bomb” provide this vibe.
* There’s generally a deeper sense of soul on this album. I’m sure the death of LeRoi Moore last year had a lot to do with this. Often, sorrow makes the best music, and it is obvious here.
* Overall, great music here. My iTunes rating was weighed down by a couple three-star ratings, but there were many more five-star ratings given to songs throughout. It’s realistic to believe the overall album score holds closer to 4.5 stars.
